The Bubble of American Supremacy - George Soros

Author:
George Soros
ISBN Number:

This book was written in advance of the re-election of George Bush to his second term in office as President of the USA and after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre. Soros discusses the approach taken by the Republican policy makers following these attacks and the opportunity it offered them to initiate policies to reduce freedom and increase control of the public in the name of anti terrorism; policies quite opposed to true Democracy although it was democracy that was used as the façade to justify of America’s actions in response to the attacks. He discusses the potential inherent weakness of America’s position in the world and relates this to some extent to the reduction of real participation by people in a truly democratic way. He discusses issues related to globalisation and relates the processes at work to those of evolution but in many respects seems to show a lack of understanding of those processes. The book is both interesting and revealing in many respects and is well worth a read.
